How delicious does this sound? A red star in the upper left corner means this must be good. And, that someone took the time to clip the recipe and pasted it to a card, means it's worth the effort to make.
It reminds me of an upside-down cherry cake my mother used to make. I love anything with cherries, so this recipe is perfect for me. This recipe would also be perfect to make with kids or for beginner bakers. Just pour and layer everything into a pan, then bake. In 30-25 minutes, you have a piping hot and delicious dessert!
Cherry Crumb Pudding
1 1lb 6oz can of cherry pie filling
1 1lb 3oz pkg. white cake mix
1/2 cup butter or margarine, cut into thin slices
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 teaspoon almond flavoring (extract)
Put cherry pie filling into a 7 1/2 x 11 1/2 x 2-inch baking pan and spread evenly. Add white cake mix and spread evenly over filling. Cover cake mix with butter slices. Sprinkle with pecans. Bake in 375F electric oven for 35 minutes.
Note: Blueberry pie filling may also be used.

Oh my, how absolutely gorgeous and decadent... I love the pasted clipping, too!
This is a lot like something called "Dump Cake", only w/DC you add 1/2 c. brown sugar, 1 small can crushed pineapple & something like a cup of coconut. My husband craves this, and I don't like it so much (SO sweet) so it's a win-win.
Oh, I guess the liquid from the cherries oozes into the flour and moistens it as it bakes? It's so bizarre! I think I'd be afraid of cutting through it and having white powder everywhere :)
Just found your blog today, and added it to my favorites. I love old recipes. I have a notebook full of some I typed up years ago that my mom had collected from various sources.
My mom has been making this recipe without the pecans for as long as I can remember. It is awesome! We mix the cake mix with the butter before sprinkling it over the top of the cherries. It comes out like the topping of an apple crisp. It's crunchy and isn't full of white powder as Manggy was worried about.
American "recipe" sites often feature lists of shop bought items, a tin of this or a pack of that, Why is it not possible to make a cherry pie without having that awfuk sweet canned rubbish in it?.
Buckle, crumble, crisp, cobbler, dump cake--I can't keep them straight. I guess it doesn't matter; they're all good. When I was a kid, I never wanted a birthday cake--it was blueberry pie for me. I love classic recipes and can't wait to try this one.
