Green Apple Pie Filling Recipe

I've never had a green apple pie but I'm sure it's tart and delicious. This green apple pie recipe is for the filling only and will make one green apple pie.

I'd be tempted season this up with a dash of salt and maybe a handful of raisins or other dried fruit. The dried fruit would add a bit of extra texture and natural sweetness.

Green Apple Pie Recipe

1 1/2 quarts green apples
3 Tablespoons melted oleo (margarine or butter)
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup granulated sugar
2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Peel and slice the green apples, then toss with oleo and lemon juice. Sprinkle with sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Toss to combine.

This pie filling should fill one pie shell.

This looks delicious--thank-you! I was wishing for a new apple pie recipe for Thanksgiving--I think this will do the trick! Love the noodle & cottage cheese scallion recipe, too--I so appreciate what you're doing here!

Shock! I thought most American pies were made with Granny Smiths. They are really beautifully flavored and well-suited to the task. Do give it a try! :)

I usually use granny smiths for my pies. I love the tartness in contrast to the sweetness of the pie.

When I was growing up, my mother made pies with green transparent apples, and still does when she can get them. She is 92 and still makes the world's best pies. These apples are very tart, and cook up to almost applesauce consistency. It is an amazing pie. I wonder if the green apples in the recipe could be the transparent variety? I don't know why they are called "transparent", they are just little green apples!
